What Does Zemaflux Do?
Zemaflux strengthens the muscles of the sphincter valve to stop stomach acid from backing up into the oesophagus. The device is used for a few minutes each day, morning and night. Unlike reflux medication, which only masks the symptoms, Zemaflux can provide long-term drug-free relief.
How long does it take to work?
This differs from user to user depending on the severity of their condition. In some cases a user will notice a reduction of reflux regurgitation after 4 to 5 days. In other cases it may take 14 to 21 days and in extreme cases an improvement may not be noticeable until after the 8-week program has been completed.
Can Zemaflux replace Gaviscon antacid?
Yes. If you are using Gaviscon, or a generic antacid, Zemaflux should strengthen your LES muscles sufficiently for you to discontinue taking antacids. Start using Zemaflux twice a day as instructed. Strengthening of the LES muscles can take 4 – 5 weeks. If you experience reflux symptoms during this period, continue to take Gaviscon, or your generic antacid, but reduce the dose by +/- 50%.
After 3 – 4 weeks, Zemaflux should have strengthened your LES muscles and you should no longer need the support of antacids.
Always consult with your physician before changing any prescribed medication.
I’m taking Omeprazole. How do I switch to Zemaflux?
Zemaflux should restore the strength of your sphincter muscles and eventually, reduce the need for reflux medication. If you are taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) such as Omeprazole you should taper off the dosage as follows:
- Use Zemaflux twice a day as instructed, for the first 7 days.
- After 7 days taper off your PPI dosage to alternate days and monitor your reflux symptoms, ie 3x PPIs in 7 days.
- If acid symptoms have not increased, further reduce the dosage to 2x PPIs every 7 days.
- After a further 7 days reduce dosage to 1x PPI every 7 days.
- At each period of 7 days, if reflux symptoms return, revert to the previous week’s dosage.
- After 4 – 5 weeks your LES muscles should have strengthened sufficiently to reduce PPI dosage completely.
SUMMARY OF PPI TAPERING:
• Week 1: 7x PPI medication • Week 2: 3x PPI medication • Week 3: 2x PPI medication • Week 4: 1x PPI medication • Week 5: zero PPI medication
Individual results vary depending on the strength of your LES muscles and you should guage results on a trial and error basis. Always consult with your physician before changing any prescribed medication.
Is Zemaflux safe to use?
Zemaflux is a natural, drug-free treatment for reflux. It uses your own breath, channelled through the Zemaflux Resistance Trainer, to exercise the Lower Esophagus Muscles (LES). No adverse effects have been reported.
How does Zemaflux work?
Weak LES muscles are the usual cause of acid reflux. These muscles control the sphincter valve that stops acid rising from the stomach. The Zemaflux Resistance Trainer strengthens these muscles so they become more effective at closing the sphincter valve.
Is Zemaflux the same as an IMT Breathing Trainer?
Not at all.
Zemaflux is completely different to an IMT breathing trainer.
While Zemaflux uses breathing resistance, it is not a breathing trainer.
Zemaflux is a low-airflow, higher-resistance training device designed to selectively impact the crural diaphragm.
An IMT breathing exerciser is a high-flow device, producing the large volume of air required to inflate and deflate the lungs.
Using a device calibrated for the lungs will have minimal effect on the LES muscles and could even produce a negative impact by inducing a concentric contraction of the esophagus which could produce the opposite outcome.
Zemaflux was designed specifically with reflux-related breathing mechanics in mind. Instead of prioritising airflow and lung expansion, Zemaflux uses a smaller mouthpiece and higher resistance, meaning less air enters with each breath but more effort is required to inhale.
This design encourages: • Slower, more controlled breathing • Greater diaphragmatic engagement • Reduced reliance on chest/lung inflation
Importantly, Zemaflux is intended to place more emphasis on the crural diaphragm—a part of the diaphragm that plays a role in pressure control around the oesophagus.
Zemaflux is configured just for strengthening crural/sphincter muscles. It enables LES breathing exercises and delivers a user-friendly method of resistance training by controlling air pressure, volume and velocity.
Zemaflux is built to treat acid reflux and heartburn at the root cause — by strengthening the LES muscles. It’s not about breathing deeper — it’s about strengthening the natural valve that stops acid from coming up your throat.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
We promise a full refund within 60 days of purchase if you are not satisfied with the results obtained from Zemaflux. Just return the unit within this time for a 100% refund. However, we are confident that within this time, you will notice a significant reduction in your reflux symptoms. Unlike taking PPIs and antacids, Zemaflux can bring permanent relief as the LES muscles gain strength and help prevent the backflow of stomach acid.
Can I use Zemaflux if I have a hiatal hernia?
The vast majority of hiatal hernias are called type I, or sliding hiatal hernias. In this type, the stomach intermittently slides up into the chest through a small opening in the diaphragm. By strengthening the LES muscles with Zemaflux the chances of this occuring can be greatly reduced.
Why do I get acid reflux/heartburn?
Acid reflux/heartburn occurs when the sphincter muscle at the lower end of your esophagus becomes weak and does not fully close, allowing stomach acid to back up into your esophagus. Zemaflux helps strengthen the sphincter muscles to prevent this happening.
Can Zemaflux help with Barrett’s Esophagus?
Yes. If your physician has diagnosed Barrett’s Esophagus then it is important for you to stop stomach acid from entering your esophagus and causing further damage. By strengthening the muscles of the sphincter ring Zemaflux can help stop acid escaping from your stomach. This will help prevent further damage to the lining of your esophagus.
Will Zemaflux cure GERD?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a severe and long-lasting condition where reflux events occur regularly and with increased intensity. Daily use of Zemaflux can help stop these events by strengthening the muscles of the sphincter ring to stop the discomfort of acid rising into your windpipe. Untreated GERD can lead to permanent damage of the esophagus. If you think you may have GERD, you should see your doctor.
Which is the best setting to use at the start of training?
Start training at the lowest resistance setting: 15 -20 cmH20. You need to feel resistance to your breathing effort, ie, you should require more effort/strength to inhale. Gradually increase resistance so you always require medium force to inhale through Zemaflux.
Will Zemaflux cure my nighttime reflux?
Nighttime reflux has the same root cause as regular reflux – a weak sphincter valve. So yes, Zemaflux should work to reduce your nighttime reflux just the same. Symptoms are worse as there is no gravity to keep stomach acid from rising. But regular use of Zemaflux will strengthen the LES muscles and stop acid regurgitation.
What is the best time to use Zemaflux?
We recommend completing one session of 30 breaths anytime before breakfast each morning. And one session of 30 breaths each evening anytime before your main meal. Each session takes just a few minutes. If you wish to increase the number of training sessions we recommend doing this in the evening before your main meal. If you perform the exercises after a meal, leave at least one hour before starting.
Should I continue using Zemaflux after symptoms improve?
A maintenance regime is recommended even after symptoms improve. As with all forms of exercise, if you stop, muscles will revert to their former condition. We recommend a maintenance regime of 3 cycles (15 breaths) once a day, morning or evening. (5 breaths = 1cycle. 3 cycles = 15 breaths).
What is the main cause of acid reflux/heartburn?
The most common cause is food that’s acidic or high in fat—like citrus fruits, tomatoes, onions, chocolate, coffee, cheese, and peppermint. Alcohol, wine, beer, spirits can also cause acid reflux. Spicy foods and large meals eaten late at night are also the enemy of reflux.
Does Zemaflux work for LPR (Silent reflux)
Silent Reflux is also known as Laryngopharyngeal Reflux. For gastric juices to travel from your stomach to your esophagus and into your throat, they have to get past the upper and lower esophageal sphincters — the muscular valves that seal off your esophagus at the top and bottom. Zemaflux will strengthen these muscles to stop the backflow of stomach acid.
Can I use Zemaflux whilst pregnant?
Using Zemaflux whilst you are pregnant can be beneficial for you and your baby. Deep abdominal breathing can be beneficial for pregnant women. This technique assists you to relax and helps the preparation for giving birth. However, when performing Zemaflux exercises, do not use sudden, forceful breaths but breathe deeply and slowly.
I get frequent burps. Can Zemaflux help?
Many people with acid reflux experience non-relieving micro-burps. These occur when gas or acidic vapour repeatedly escapes past a weakened or poorly supported lower oesophageal sphincter (LES). Instead of one satisfying burp, you get constant “trickling” releases that irritate the throat and chest without reducing pressure. This pattern is common in so-called mechanical reflux or silent reflux.
Antacids neutralise acid, but they don’t stop reflux events themselves. If vapour or gas continues to rise due to mechanical weakness at the LES, symptoms like frequent burping can persist even when acid levels are reduced.
Zemaflux is a drug-free, mechanical device designed to reduce reflux events by supporting the natural barrier at the top of the stomach. By helping prevent repeated upward escape of gas and vapour—especially when lying down—it can reduce the cycle of constant, non-relieving burps.
Many users report fewer night-time and early-morning burps within days, with continued improvement as reflux episodes decrease and the oesophagus has time to settle.
Yes. Frequent micro-burping without burning is a common presentation of reflux, and Zemaflux is designed to address the mechanics of reflux rather than acid alone.
I have bile reflux. Will Zemaflux help my condition?
Bile reflux occurs when bile, produced in your liver, flows back up into your stomach and, in some cases, into your esophagus. As with acid reflux, the LES muscles that work the sphincter ring, which should prevent this happening, has become weak and will not close. Zemaflux can help with this condition by improving the muscle strength of your sphincter.
How do I clean Zemaflux?
Zemaflux is easy to clean – it takes a few minutes to cleanse the device under running water. Remove the mouthpiece. Place the open end of the device under a tap and run water through it for 30 – 60 seconds to flush out any impurities. Shake dry and leave parts to air dry. As Zemaflux is exposed to saliva during use, we recommend washing in warm soapy water followed by a plain water rinse every two weeks. The spare mouthpiece can be used if sharing the device with another user. The mouthpiece is attached by a snap fit method. Remove by simply pulling it down, away from the main body of the device. To return the mouthpiece simply push back until it snaps together.
Can you continue to use after reflux has stopped?
Yes, you can continue using Zemaflux to build sphincter muscle strength after the cessation of reflux events. Our research shows that exercising the LES muscles twice a week for 2-3 minutes with a maintenance regime continues to improve sphincter muscle function and helps block rising acid.
I feel a constant “lump in the throat”? Can Zemaflux help?
This sensation is commonly known as globus sensation and is frequently associated with acid reflux or silent reflux. It often occurs when acid, gas, or reflux vapour repeatedly irritates the upper oesophagus and throat. Even without heartburn, this ongoing irritation can make swallowing feel abnormal and create the persistent feeling that something is lodged in the throat. Reflux episodes at night or after meals often make the feeling more noticeable the following day.
Zemaflux is a drug-free, mechanical reflux device designed to reduce reflux events at their source. By helping prevent acid and reflux vapour from repeatedly rising into the oesophagus—particularly when lying down—Zemaflux allows irritated throat tissues time to settle, which can reduce the sensation of a persistent lump.
Many users report gradual improvement over days to weeks as reflux episodes decrease and throat irritation heals, especially when Zemaflux is used consistently alongside reflux-friendly habits.
I have constant post-nasal drip? Can Zemaflux help?
Post-nasal drip is often linked to silent reflux (laryngopharyngeal reflux) rather than a sinus problem. When acid or reflux vapour repeatedly reaches the upper throat—especially at night—it can irritate the lining. In response, the body produces extra mucus as a protective mechanism, which feels like a persistent drip at the back of the throat.
Many people with reflux never feel burning in the chest. Instead, reflux vapour irritates the throat, voice box, and nasal passages, triggering mucus production without classic heartburn symptoms.
Zemaflux is a drug-free, mechanical reflux device designed to reduce reflux events at their source. By helping prevent acid and vapour from rising into the upper throat—particularly during sleep—it reduces ongoing irritation, allowing mucus production to settle naturally over time.
Morning post-nasal drip is commonly linked to night-time reflux, and Zemaflux is specifically designed to help reduce reflux while lying down.
I experience food or acid coming back up my throat? Can Zemaflux help?
This sensation is known as regurgitation and is a common symptom of acid reflux. It happens when the natural valve at the top of the stomach (the lower oesophageal sphincter, or LES) does not stay closed properly, allowing stomach contents—liquid, gas, or partially digested food—to move upward into the oesophagus.
Regurgitation doesn’t always cause burning pain. Many people describe it as pressure, movement, or a rising sensation rather than heat. This is especially common in mechanical or silent reflux, where the problem is repeated reflux events rather than excess acid alone.
Zemaflux is a drug-free, mechanical reflux device designed to reduce reflux events at their source. By helping support the body’s natural anti-reflux barrier—particularly when lying down—it reduces the likelihood of food or acidic contents travelling back up the oesophagus.
I feel nauseous and bloated after eating? Can Zemaflux help?
Nausea and bloating are common but often overlooked symptoms of acid reflux. When stomach contents repeatedly move upward or when pressure builds in the stomach due to reflux dysfunction, it can slow normal emptying and create a persistent feeling of fullness, pressure, or sickness—even after eating very little.
Reflux doesn’t always present as burning pain. In many people, reflux causes pressure, nausea, and bloating rather than classic heartburn. This is especially common in silent reflux or mechanical reflux, where the issue is repeated reflux events rather than excess acid alone.
Zemaflux is a drug-free, mechanical reflux device designed to reduce reflux events at their source. By helping prevent stomach contents and gas from repeatedly moving upward—particularly when lying down—it can reduce stomach pressure, allowing digestion to feel more comfortable and less congested.
